The Story: SNAFFLER originally came together in 1998. Jo had been singing since her days as lead singer/song-writer of local indie-pop darlings the Love Buttons who dominated the early 90’s Southampton scene and supported such acts as Carter USM, Lush and Primal Scream. Drummer Bananas and Lead-guitarist Nic were accompanied by Steve on bass, many gigs were played throughout the city including The Hobbit, The Joiners, Lennons to name but a few, and they cut a CD single featuring two original tracks and a cover of White Horses - the theme tune to the ‘70’s children’s TV series of the same name. The album Bingo Knickers followed soon after, and Jane made an appearance for a time as backing vocalist. Nic and Bananas sing like little birds though and provide some of the three-part harmonies that take this collection of rock-pop tunes to harmonic yet gutsy heights. The Sound: SNAFFLER’S music is a combination of indie-based melodic tunes, but singed with a harder, more raunchy edge - a bit like Blondie with a strop-on. SNAFFLER developed a strong following in Southampton, and 20 years after their final gig at the Joiners, they’re reforming for a reunion gig… with Cov John taking over the role of bassist - watch this space!
